Walking on these lands, you will encounter not only ancient stones, but also the stories behind them. Now, it is possible to both experience this fascinating journey firsthand and deepen it with a digital guide, Stone Mounds.

The findings unearthed in Karahantepe in 2023 brought a new perspective and definition to the entire understanding of the Neolithic era. The statue, which adorns the symbolic world of prehistoric humans, is now welcoming visitors at the Şanlıurfa Museum. Also found in the same area and holding the feature of being the oldest and largest of its kind from that period, the 2.45-meter-tall seated human statue evokes a living individual with its ribs resembling a skeleton on one side and its phallus on the other.

Our idea to support the Karahantepe excavations first began in October 2018 with a 4-day visit to the region led by Prof. Dr. Necmi Karul, by a group of 30 friends—mostly members of the World Heritage Travelers Association—who have seen hundreds of heritage sites in dozens of countries both at home and abroad.
